Before and after…

Today Adam and I cleared the bank in front of the Lapwing Hide to improve the view down to Ibsley Water shore. There is a small shingle spit just in front of the hide and quite a few gulls and ducks have been roosting on it lately so you can now get a better look at it from the hide.

We left a few tussocks of rush in the hope that more elusive species like water rails would creep between them, you never know it might work!

We also cut some back some willow on the path that approaches lapwing hide, to allow views into the Mockbeggar silt pond. We cut three viewing areas altogether, this should give reasonable views of any wildfowl using the pond in the winter. On the pond today there was a female tufted duck with three ducklings, a pair of great crested grebes with two young, little grebes, coots and moorhens.

If your visiting tomorrow, habitat management work will be taking place on the shore of Ibsley Water in front of the Tern hide between 10am – 12pm and the Ivy south hide from 1.30pm till 3pm, so you may want to check out the other hides at these times.
