Evening egret and peregrine

Yesterday I stayed late after work to see if many gulls came into roost on Ibsley Water, this time of year there can be huge numbers of lesser black-backed gulls, however just a few hundred turned up. I did get good views of Walter White our wintering great white egret from the Tern Hide though.

Even better was a peregrine sat on the long peninsular in front of Tern Hide, it sat around watching the ducks for about half an hour then flew very fast low over the lake, causing many gulls and lapwings to take off. It was mobbed by some herring gulls then landed back on the peninsular. I tried to take a few photos through my telescope but it was just a bit too distant to get anything sharp, below is a heavily cropped record shot.
