Apologies for the lack of posts this week, now the summer holidays are in full swing we’ve been super busy with our Wild Days Out and family events, and a little short staffed!
Great fun was had this morning, with six families enjoying a splash around in Dockens Water. We started off with an exciting boat race, making our boats from the rushes growing alongside the footpath on the way to the river, before seeing what we could catch.

We caught some fab damselfly, stonefly and mayfly nymphs, lots of whirligig beetles (they have the best name!), some small bullhead fish and some pond skaters, amongst others. Possibly the most exciting was the small brown trout, photographed below.
