The pop(u)lar event that was not so popular

As always Blashford has participated in the National Moth Night Event again this year – Ed ran a small event yesterday morning and I led one aimed at a family audience today. Unfortunately neither event attracted much interest – perhaps due to the very much undeserved popular opinion that moths are not particularly interesting! That said those people who did attend had our undivided attention and the opportunity to enjoy lovely close up encounters with what are really quite beautiful and fascinating insects:

Dot moth - undeserving of such a plain name in my opinion!

Wow!

Wow!

Learning from nature - having observed the real thing we see who can design and colour the best camouflaged moth. Despite Mums secretive attempt, Dad won!

BIRD UPDATE: As of lunch time today there have been no further reports of yesterdays purple heron.

  1. I`m grateful that you are doing your best to somehow immerse kids to nature Jim. It is quite depressing today that more kids doesn’t know the connection between us and them. Moths, may seem uninteresting but only if you don’t understand the nature of these wonderful insects.
