Hide closures, 14th and 15th of August, plus a few wildlife sightings.

Tomorrow from 10.30-11.30am the Woodland Hide will be closed for maintenance and on Thursday the Tern Hide will be closed between 10am-12pm as the Blashford lakes volunteers will be weeding the shore of Ibsley Water.

Wildlife sightings today have included the ruff and 4 common sandpipers on Ibsley Water again. Ivy lake had 3 possibly 5 green sandpipers and grey heron, little egret and great white egret in front of Ivy north hide. The great white egret gave fantastic views right in front of the hide, wading around and catching perch. Two clouded yellow butterflies were also seen, one by Goosander hide and one by the lichen heath.

This red underwing moth was found on side of the visitor centre by super ace volunteer Cheryl. It did show slightly more of it’s red under wings than yesterday’s effort but couldn’t be persuaded to show more before flying away.. The next one is going in the fridge for a while!
