Thank you to Pete Blanchard for emailing us his fantastic photograph of the spotted redshank seen by Ibsley Water last week . Pete took this photo from the Tern Hide on Wednesday. He had thought it was just a redshank that he was photographing until he got home and looked back through his photos and could see what it was. What a lovely surprise!
The spotted redshank is a relatively scarce wintering species in the UK but a few do spend the winter on the south coast. At this time of year they will be thinking about migrating north again to head back to their breeding grounds in northern Europe and Scandinavia.
