Sadly not for good, but he can’t stay away(!) and spent half the day here on Thursday overseeing the erection of the long-awaited artificial osprey nesting platform (artificial nest that is, not a nest for artificial ospreys!) on the eastern shore of Ibsley Water.
Part of a much bigger project along the coast and up and down major river valleys across the south the intention is to trick passing ospreys to nest down here rather than continuing up to Scotland – younger birds particularly are thought to favour sites that show previous use on the basis that if it was good enough for a previous pair, it should be good enough for them!
In reality we do not anticipate ospreys using the Blashford platform for nesting, but it will lend weight to the project overall and will hopefully provide a perch for the birds to fish on and feed from.
