Following on from Bob’s sneaky visit to Blashford; the red head smew was seen again today. The smew was seen in front of the spit from Ivy South Hide. The bittern were showing this morning; with one flying across in the morning. All I spotted however were these swans. The knot was also seen again on Ibsley Water
Following the mild start to the year the wild daffodils have started to come up outside the Woodland Hide. No doubt the short sharp cold spell we have just had will have come as a bit of a surprise to them!
Lastly the lesser redpoll were feeding on the alder outside Ivy South Hide; almost close enough for me to get a photo; but not quite!
Tomorrow is set to be a busy day visitor wise on the reserve as there are a couple of organised self guided groups visiting and we are also hosting our annual volunteer thank you event so there will be a big crowd of us walking around in the afternoon! We will all be splitting into small groups so as not to completely fill all the bird hides but it will be quite busy – you have been warned!
