Höckerschwan

The great white egret was out on the edge of Rockford Lake in the early morning sunshine and after being disturbed it flew over to Ivy lake and appeared on lake-cam; one of its regular spots.

A couple of months back a swan was reported out on the A338 and so Jim informed the local wildlife rescue man who set out to rescue it. The swan was found to be a hungry youngster without any flight feathers that was walking along the road in search of food. The lucky swan was rescued, fed and then released down at Christchurch where it was hoped it would be more accepted. Interestingly the swan had a ring round its leg which was reported in and the information back showed that it had come all the way from Germany. This is only the second ever recorded evidence of a mute swan making the journey from Germany across to the UK.
